Step 1, set out the glass

Bahamin Akhtari at Christ Church, Oxford

Let's make coffee while you learn about me.

I'm Bahamin Ayla Akhtari, Baha for short. I graduated with my Master's in Biomedical Informatics in 2025, and I'm currently looking for opportunities that will cultivate my skills, challenge me to grow, and allow me to turn my potential into meaningful contributions..

Every section you read adds one step to the cup on the left. By the end, it's a latte.

Step 2, add the beans

Where this starts

I came to data through public health. I was drawn to the intersection of healthcare and technology, and my master's gave me the skills to chase both at once. I wanted to build my skills in about data, technology, and analysis, all while learning how it's applied in real-world settings, like healthcare.

I'm still drawn to health tech, but I've grown curious about what that same approach looks like in other fields too.

Alongside all of this, I still work retail pharmacy hours, where I have interacted with people from myriad of backgrounds all while learning about operational data in order to provide optimal care for patients.

Step 3, grind

Grinding it down

Two degrees, my academic background.

May 2025

MS, Biomedical Informatics

UTHealth McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, GPA 3.9

Coursework: Methods in Data Science, System Analysis and Project Management, Visualization and Visual Analytics, Statistical Methods, Clinical Decision Support Systems, Quality and Outcome Improvement.

BS, Public Health

University of Houston, Cum Laude

Epidemiology, biostatistics, and the population view of health that still shapes how I frame every analysis.

Step 4, pull the shot

The concentrated part

Jun 2024 to May 2025

Data Science Intern

RTI International

Research at the intersection of health and climate. Built and maintained data pipelines, ran analyses, and turned results into figures and summaries a non technical reader could follow.

  • Managed data for 50+ research projects, defining and tracking 230+ success metrics to monitor project health.
  • Audited structured data ingested from 40+ vendor and partner sources, catching and correcting issues to keep it accurate and complete.
  • Validated RTI Rarity through exploratory analysis, showing it explained 70% of neighborhood variation in life expectancy nationally, more than double the standard indices.

Inventory Specialist, previously Certified Pharmacy Technician

CVS Pharmacy, Houston

Responsible for stock accuracy, ordering, and shrink across a high volume pharmacy. Real inventory data, real consequences when the numbers are wrong. Along the way I've also led and mentored staff on compliance protocols and quality standards, coordinating across teams to keep service and reporting consistent.

Step 5, ice and milk

What I pour in

Roughly how often I reach for each of these.

PythonFastAPI, pandas, the everyday workhorse
SQL and PostgreSQLSchema design through to gnarly queries
RStatistics, modeling, R Shiny apps
JavaScript and ReactFront ends for the things I build
TableauDashboards people outside the team can read
HTML and CSSEnough to make it look intentional

Step 6, pour the shot over

What I've built with it

A few things worth pointing to. Everything here, and more, lives on my GitHub.

Harry Potter Pong Game

Python, Pygame

Step 7, give it a stir

Time given away

The part that never shows up in a job title.

2026

FIFA World Cup 2026, Houston Fan Festival

Guest Experience Volunteer

Helped run the fan festival for thousands of attendees: hospitality and information support at the front line, coordinating with event staff on crowd flow and accessibility, and serving as a point of contact when guests needed an answer fast.

Off the clock

Outside of the technical world, you'll probably find me reading books the internet convinced me to get, watching films that stick with me long after the credits roll, or discovering songs in languages I don't understand yet.

I sidequest too: beginner fencing classes, pottery with friends, and enough symphony and ballet to call myself a regular at the local arts scene.

Step 8, straw in, serve

Bahamin Akhtari with an iced coffee

One latte, ready!

Now you know a little about me. I'd like to know a little about you too, whether that means a role you're hiring for, a dataset that needs a home, or just an iced coffee in Houston, where it's iced coffee weather roughly ten months a year.
